Service overview

Start with the question.
Build the right next step.

Every farm, animal and situation is different. These sections provide a useful starting point; the veterinarian will tailor recommendations to the case in front of us.

01What this service covers

On-farm examination and treatment of ill or injured dairy cattle, calving assistance and field surgery when the case, facilities and animal welfare make on-farm care appropriate. Emergency coverage is available to established clients through the clinic’s on-call service.

02When to contact us

Call promptly for difficult calving, severe bloat, breathing distress, uncontrolled bleeding, major wounds, sudden inability to rise, suspected fracture, severe abdominal pain or rapid deterioration. Call the clinic if you are unsure whether a case can safely wait.

03What to expect

The veterinarian will triage the situation by phone, assess the animal and discuss realistic options, costs, prognosis and withdrawal considerations. Treatment, surgery, referral or humane euthanasia may be recommended according to the findings and the animal’s welfare.
