Service overview
Start with the question.
Build the right next step.
Every farm, animal and situation is different. These sections provide a useful starting point; the veterinarian will tailor recommendations to the case in front of us.
01What this service covers
Veterinary oral examination and dental care intended to identify sharp enamel points, malocclusions, retained or diseased teeth, periodontal problems and other causes of discomfort or poor chewing.
02When to contact us
Arrange routine examinations at an interval recommended for the individual horse. Call sooner for quidding, dropping feed, difficulty chewing, weight loss, resistance to the bit, facial swelling, oral odour, nasal discharge or suspected dental pain.
03What to expect
The veterinarian examines the horse and oral cavity, generally using safe restraint, sedation and a speculum when appropriate. Findings determine whether floating, extraction, imaging, staged treatment or referral is recommended; not every abnormality should be aggressively reduced.
